What is Orthodoxy?

The twentieth century is the century of technical development and achievement. Man has overcome many of his infirmities and reached a high point of civilization. We can say that nowadays we live in a time in which the world is united. There no longer exist remote regions where one can travel for months. We can no longer talk about East and West as in the past, as being two absolutely separate things. Today the distance between them has been annihilated; men easily become acquainted and easily communicate with people of other nationalities and religions. This fraternization and ease of communication and friendship hat characterize contemporary man is without fail a hopeful sign of progress that every man approves.

In the spiritual sector, however, many lesser or greater problems arise which create questions. A great many of the foreigners (usually catholics and protestants) who visit Greece and its important monuments, among which are Christian monuments (Holy Mountain, Meteora, etc.), that have been admired for centuries, have a query:

“Isn’t it the same Christ Whom you and we worship? What is keeping us separate? And what is “Orthodoxy” which you so strongly and so devoutly defend?”

In the following pages we will try to give a quick but comprehensive answer to:
I) What is Orthodoxy?
II) What are the reasons for the schism between the Churches?
III) What other differences exist between the Churches that keep us separate even now?
IV) The Protestants, and
V) What are the presuppositions for a true and Godly union. (From the publisher)
